69^th Intake Officer Cadets receive letters of appointment

Forty-seven (47) Officer Cadets formally received their letters of appointment to join the Sri Lanka Navy today, 28 July 2026. The event which was held at Navy Headquarters, was presided over by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Damian Fernando.

The latest cohort of Officer Cadets, chosen from a pool of nearly 625 applicants, consists of 47 individuals, including 4 Lady Cadets, belonging to the 69^th intake of the Regular Naval Force. The group of Officer Cadets accounts for the Executive, Logistics, Infantry, Engineering, Electrical and Provost branches.

Addressing the gathering, Vice Admiral Fernando said the 47 officer cadets had earned their place from a vast pool of applicants and would represent the future leadership of the Sri Lanka Navy. He said the Navy remained committed to providing professional training to develop disciplined, competent and professional officers.

The Commander emphasised that safeguarding Sri Lanka's maritime sovereignty and upholding the nation's honour required integrity, courage and selfless service. He described the appointment letters as a symbol of the Navy's confidence in the Officer Cadets and the responsibilities entrusted to them. He also expressed his appreciation to the parents of the new batch of Officer Cadets for encouraging their sons and daughters to pursue a career in naval service.

The occasion was also attended by the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera; Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, Director Generals, senior officers from the Navy Headquarters and Western Naval Command as well as near and dear ones of the recipients of appointment letters.
