Navy persists in support of national anti-dengue efforts
The Sri Lanka Navy actively contributed to the fourth consecutive day of the national dengue control programme today, 8 July 2026. This national initiative is spearheaded by the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit, and the Sri Lanka Police Environmental Protection Division under the inspiring theme “Towards a Dengue-Free Colombo”.
Demonstrating a strong collaborative spirit, over fifteen (50) naval personnel attached to the Western Naval Command joined forces with Medical Officers of Health (MOH), Divisional Secretariat officials, Public Health Inspectors (PHIs), and members of the International Red Cross to ensure the success of the programme.
The teams meticulously inspected 50 locations across several key areas, including the vicinity of the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Rajagiriya, Mahara, Wattala, Borella, Kotte, Welisara and Panadura. During these extensive inspections, those teams identified one thousand seven hundred and thirty (1730) potential dengue breeding grounds. Parallel to the field operations, one hundred and sixty (160) awareness-focused programmes were also conducted to educate the public on effective dengue prevention methods.
Complementing these public initiatives, the Navy has also deployed continuous anti-dengue campaigns across Naval Commands, ensuring all naval bases remain safe, clean, and free of dengue-breeding environments.
