Trincomalee Naval Exercise (TRINEX - 26) gets underway
The Sri Lanka Navy's Trincomalee Naval Exercise 2026 (TRINEX 26) began on 20 July at the Trincomalee Naval Dockyard under the patronage of the Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kosala Warnakulasooriya.
The exercise will run until 25th July in and around Trincomalee Harbour and surrounding seas. It involves the Naval Fleet, the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla (4FAF) , the Special Boat Squadron (SBS), the Navy Marine and the Sri Lanka Air Force.
'TRINEX 26' is intended to enhance interoperability and operational readiness between the Navy and the Air Force in conducting maritime surveillance and operations. The exercise also aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills required for the Naval Fleet's future participation in international maritime exercises.
The harbour phase commenced on 20 July, with participating Navy and Air Force personnel receiving briefings on communication procedures and exercise-related measures. They also exchanged knowledge and experiences gained from previous exercises.
The sea phase will be conducted from 21 to 24 July in the Eastern Naval Command sea area, followed by a debriefing session on 25 July. It will involve the Sri Lanka Navy's principal naval ships, Fast Attack Craft from the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla and air assets of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
The exercise will feature Miscellaneous Exercises (MISCEX), Surface Target Firing Exercises (SUFTX), Screening Exercises (SCREENEX), Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP), Flashing Exercises (FLASHEX), Gunnery Exercises (GUNNEX), Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS), Helicopter Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (HVBSS), Search and Rescue Exercises (SAREX), Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC) and a wide range of maritime exercises.
