Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya located in Kalpitiya in the North Western Naval Command arrested 4 local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities using monofilament nets in the seas between Uchchamunai and Ippantivu yesterday (16).

Along with the suspects, 2 traditional boats (Wallam), 2 monofilament nets and 110 kgs of fish were taken into naval custody. The apprehended persons, belongings and fish were handed over to Assistant Directorate of Fisheries, Puttalam for further investigations.
