Navy contributes in the World Environment Day
Extending her contribution in the public wellbeing projects, Sri Lanka Navy assisted in the cleaning campaigns of beach areas which were carried out on par with the World Environment Day and such beach cleaning programmes were held in the Western and Southern Naval commands, yesterday (5th June).
Accordingly, a prograamme was carried out to clean the beach area of Crow Island in Mattakkuliya by Western Naval Command in collaboration of Nestle Lanka Ltd. and Mattakkuliya Public Library and it was attended by 50 naval personnel of SL Navy, 50 personnel of Nestle Lanka Ltd. and 15 personnel of Mattakkuliya Public Library. The collected heaps of polythene and plastic were directed to the Navy’s polythene and plastic recycling centre located at the Crow Island, Mattakkuliya.
Further, Naval personnel of Southern Naval Command conducted beach cleaning programmes with the assistance of Ministry of Environment-Southern Provincial Council and Community Organizations in the area. Accordingly, the beach area from Express Way entrance at Devata to Galle Fisheries Harbour was cleaned by naval personnel attached to SLNS Dakshina while the beach area from hospital premises at Mahamodara to Galle Fort was cleaned by naval personnel attached to SLNS Nipuna.
