Bathymetric Fair Sheet of Valaichchenai Lagoon handed over to Commander of the Navy
The Chief Hydrographer of the Navy, Rear Admiral Prasad Kariyapperuma handed over the Bathymetric Fair Sheet of Valaichchenai Lagoon to the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera at the Navy Headquarters today (08th August 2023). The Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service has prepared this Bathymetric Fair Sheet upon a survey of underwater topography of the Valaichchenai Lagoon, to identify a safe entrance to the Valaichchenai fisheries harbour in Batticaloa.
At the directives of the Commander of the Navy and under the supervision of the Chief Hydrographer of the Navy the hydrographic survey commenced in the month of July, with the able contribution of the Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service.
Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service prepared the Bathymetric Fair Sheet within a short period of time, identifying a safe entrance to the Valaichchenai fisheries harbour. This initiative will be crucial for the fishermen who use the fisheries harbour. In addition, naval craft deployed in patrols in Valaichchenai Lagoon will also be able to steer clear of potential dangers and choose safe paths through the shallow water.
