Russian Naval Ship Varyag departs island

The Russian Naval Ship Varyag, which arrived in Colombo on 01st March 2024, departed the island today (03rd March), on successful completion of its official visit. The Sri Lanka Navy bade customary farewell to the departing ship at the port of Colombo in compliance with naval traditions.

Meanwhile, the Flag Officer of the ship, Captain 1st Rank Velichko Anatoly Vasicievich and the Commanding Officer, Captain 2nd Rank Glushakov Roman Nikolaevich called on the Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Saman Perera at the Western Naval Command Headquarters and held cordial discussions. Mementoes were also exchanged to mark the importance of those occasions.

Meanwhile, personnel of the Sri Lanka Navy had the opportunity to visit the Russian Missile Cruiser in Colombo. During their stay in Sri Lanka, the crew members of the ship took part in several programmes organised by the Sri Lanka Navy, with a view to promote camaraderie and visited some of the tourist attractions in the country.
