Navy's sea transportation crucial in delivering sacred statue of Our Lady of Madhu to churches in island sector, Jaffna

In conjunction with the centenary celebrations of the Roman Catholic Marian Shrine in Mannar, the sacred statue of Our Lady of Madhu was brought to Jaffna. Allowing devotees to pay their obeisance to the statue, the Sri Lanka Navy on 21st April 2024 provided sea transportation to deliver the sacred statue to the churches in island sector, Jaffna.

Once in fifty (50) years, the sacred statue of Our Lady of Madhu is brought out from the church for Catholic devotees to worship in churches outside its usual location.

In a gesture of reverence and cooperation, the Sri Lanka Navy, at the directives of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera and under the supervision of the Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, rendered assistance to transport the sacred statue to churches on the islands of Delft, Eluvaitivu, and Kayts in Jaffna.
