A powerful message on AIDS awareness delivered via street drama at Naval Dockyard
The Navy facilitated the conduct of a street drama, staged at the Naval Dockyard premises, on 06th December 2024. This creative and interactive initiative aimed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS while fostering understanding and compassion within the naval personnel and their family members. HIV poses a major threat to global public health, affecting communities worldwide. To raise awareness about the AIDS pandemic caused by this virus, the United Nations observes 01st December each year as World AIDS Day.
Acting on the directives of Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Damian Fernando, this initiative was implemented under the guidance of Acting Commodore Superintendent Health (E), Surgeon Captain Duminda Samarawickrama. The Public Health Inspectors Division of the Eastern Naval Command organized this timely initiative, performed at multiple locations within the dockyard, successfully engaging diverse audiences and delivering a crucial message.
This initiative also emphasized the importance of education, prevention, testing, and combating stigma associated with HIV/AIDS. The event highlighted the Navy’s commitment to contributing to broader global health goals, making it a resounding success.
