Naval Pilgrims Rest in Katharagama and sailors’ mess at SLNS Kawantissa declared open
The Naval Pilgrims Rest in Katharagama and sailors’ mess at SLNS Kawantissa were declared open by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera today (24th December 2024), along with the participation of the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Mala Lamahewa. These new facilities have been established to enhance welfare provisions for naval personnel and their families.
The Navy’s Engineering and Civil Engineering Departments, under the directives of the Commander of the Navy and the supervision of the Commander Southern Naval Area, successfully completed the construction of the two-storeyed Naval Pilgrims Rest, funded by the Naval Buddhist Association. Additionally, a new five-storeyed building complex was inaugurated at SLNS Kawantissa to enhance welfare facilities for sailors. The facility includes a main galley, storage areas, and the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre. The ceremonial opening was held amidst the blessings of Ven. Maha Sanga, who chanted Seth Pirith.
Additionally, the Commander of the Navy commended the sailors for their dedicated efforts in completing the construction promptly and up to the required standards, acknowledging their service.
The Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Chandima Silva, Commander Western Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force, Rear Admiral Chinthaka Kumarasinghe, Director General Engineering, Rear Admiral Chinthaka Rajapaksha, Director General Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Rear Admiral Prashanth Anthony, Acting Director General Civil Engineering, Commodore Ravi Gunasinghe and officers and sailors from the Navy Headquarters and Southern Naval Command were present on this occasion.
