Navy officers explore Gongala Peak on hiking adventure
In line with the vision of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, to promote a healthy work-life balance, the Sri Lanka Navy's Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department successfully organised a hiking expedition to Mount Gongala on 11th January 2025.
The event saw the participation of Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Chandima Silva, Acting Director General Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Commodore Pradeep Karunathilake and 50 officers from the Western and Southern Naval Commands. Covering a total distance of 17km, the hike included six road climbs and a 2.5 km trek through the jungle, offering participants breathtaking views from the Gongala Peak.
The initiative aimed to enhance work-life balance by fostering camaraderie while promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and happiness. At the summit, the officers also expanded their knowledge about the technology and significance of the Microwave Station located on Mount Gongala.
