Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka visits Eastern Naval Command

The Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, H.E. Akio Isomata visited the Eastern Naval Command Headquarters in Trincomalee and met with the acting Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Indika De Silva on 20th January 2025.

During this courtesy call, they exchanged views on Japan's ongoing support to improve livelihoods in the Eastern Province, the historical value of Trincomalee and matters of bilateral importance.

The ambassador also toured the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) Headquarters, where he was briefed key training programmes in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The tour included visits to the Ship-in-the-Box facility, a vital asset for maritime training, and an ongoing project to further enhance training infrastructure.

A live demonstration at the Ship-in-the-Box facility showcased the advanced operational and tactical expertise of SBS personnel in maritime security. Japanese delegation along with officials of UNODC were also attended the event held at SBS Headquarters.
