Navy dives into community service in support of "A Beautiful Beach - An Attractive Tourist Destination" project
In a significant move to support the government’s Clean Sri Lanka initiative, the Sri Lanka Navy recently conducted a series of beach cleaning programmes on 22 and 23 Feb 25. The efforts, backed by the Northern, Northwestern and North Central Naval Command, were part of the broader "A Beautiful Beach - An Attractive Tourist Destination" project, which aims to restore and maintain the pristine condition of the country’s beaches and tourist hotspots.
Demonstrating its commitment to environmental conservation and community welfare, the Southern Naval Command on 22 Feb mobilized personnel to clean up plastic and polythene debris scattered along the coastlines of Galle Fort, Godawaya Fisheries Harbour, and Dodamduwa to Rajgama.
In the same vein, on 23 Feb the Northern Naval Command threw its weight behind this worthy cause by cleaning Kankasanthurai, Point Pedro to Sakkote, Madagalthurei to Kusumanthurei, Thirawadu to Saukkadi, Kovilan Lighthouse, Sadi, Padithirippu, Kilali, Vinayasodi to K Point, Manaladi and Manathkadu beach areas. Meanwhile, the Northwestern Naval Command helped restore the natural beauty of the beaches of Mullikulam to Karadakkuliya, Hunais Nagar to Karadakkuliya, Kallaru, Thudawa, near Anawasala Church, village of Kala Oya, Diyapannuma and Puttalam lagoon. Additionally, naval personnel from the North Central Naval Command rolled up their sleeves to clean Urumalei, Old Bridge, Piregama, Keeri, Thalpadu, Pesalei, Vankalei, Waleipadu and Illuppukadawai beaches, removing plastic and polythene debris scattered across those coastlines.
These community service efforts were also augmented with the participation of governmental organizations, Sri Lanka Army, Police and communities.
