Commander of the Navy visits Northern Naval Command
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda on 14th Mar 25 paid a visit to the Northern Naval Command, to assess ongoing operations, training matters, and development and welfare initiatives undertaken by the command. During his visit, he also addressed officers and sailors, emphasizing the crucial role and responsibilities of the Sri Lanka Navy.
He addressed officers at the Command Wardroom, sailors at the General Mess of SLNS Uththara, and naval personnel belonging to the Fleet Command at the Fleet Command’s PH Jetty. During his addresses, Vice Admiral Banagoda highlighted the Navy’s crucial role in ensuring national security. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to maritime security to facilitate uninterrupted economic activities. Additionally, he stressed the importance of combating illegal activities conducted through sea routes and also reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to preserving ocean biodiversity.
Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Banagoda emphasized the necessity of maintaining a technologically advanced and professional navy. He highlighted the importance of dedication to duty and the role of seniors in guiding their juniors. The Commander of the Navy also stated that the Navy is ready to support the government’s nation-building initiatives with its skilled workforce and expertise. Furthermore, he reiterated the Navy’s commitment to the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, calling for active participation from naval personnel to contribute to this cause.
During his visit, the Commander of the Navy took time off to inspect operational, welfare, training, and construction activities at SLNS Uththara, Wasabha, and Elara and issued necessary directives to ensure the efficient execution of those tasks.
