UNODC courses hosted by Navy conclude in Trincomalee

The Sri Lanka Navy hosted the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) sponsored Regional Maritime Law Enforcement Instructor Course and Regional VBSS Fishing Vessel Boarding Officer Course at Special Boat Squadron Headquarters in Trincomalee. The courses concluded with a certificate awarding ceremony at Sober Island Resort on 20 Mar 25.

Regional VBSS Fishing Vessel Boarding Officer Course focused on training participants to become internationally qualified instructors in maritime law enforcement. Throughout the course, participants underwent thorough assessments in both practical and theoretical aspects of VBSS operations, which are essential for countering illegal activities at sea. Meanwhile, the Regional Maritime Law Enforcement Instructor Course equipped participants with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to effectively train and mentor maritime law enforcement personnel.

The courses were participated by 27 personnel from the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Indian Coast Guard and Maldives Coast Guard.

The certificate awarding ceremony was attended by representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Colombo as well as instructors from UNODC and Atomic Energy Authority of Sri Lanka.
