Navy takes lead in rolling out Basic Life Support training for safety of fishing community

In a bid to enhance safety and emergency preparedness among fishing communities, the Sri Lanka Navy in partnership with the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, conducted a Basic Life Support (BLS) training programme at Cod Bay and Valaichchenai Fisheries Harbours from 26 to 28 Mar 25.

As part of the Naval Social Responsibility initiatives, the programme was hosted by the Eastern Naval Command Hospital. The training aimed to equip fishermen with basic first aid & emergency management, prevention of non-communicable and pre-non-communicable diseases, drug prevention education, mental health awareness and community health education, ensuring they can respond effectively to emergencies at sea. On completion of the training programme, participants were presented with certificates as well.
