Naval personnel hone skills during Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence Equipment Operator Training
The Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence Equipment Operator Training Course 25-1 concluded on successful note at the Special Boat Squadron Headquarters, Trincomalee. The certificate awarding ceremony, held on 27 Jun 25, was presided over by Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera.
The training programme conducted in two phases from 23 to 27 Jun, was contributed by resource persons from the United States Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence (DOE NSDD) and the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board. A total of 32 participants, 16 from the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) and 16 from the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy took part in the training programme. The initiative aimed to strengthen the Sri Lanka Navy’s ability to combat nuclear smuggling while equipping personnel with hands-on expertise in operating advanced radiation detection systems.
Representatives of DOE NSDD, Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board and a group of officers from the Eastern Naval Command were present on this occasion.
