Navy firefighting team assists in containing blaze at Sapugaskanda Refinery

The Sri Lanka Navy swiftly responded to a request for assistance to combat a sudden fire at the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery on the evening of 10 Sep 25. The blaze erupted in an oil tank that was undergoing repairs, posing a serious risk of spreading to adjacent facilities.

Upon receiving the urgent alert, the Western Naval Command Operations Room immediately mobilized a Navy naval firefighting team to the scene of fire with a fire engine (01) and a water bowser (01) to support containment efforts.

Working in a coordinated joint operation with firefighting units from the Sri Lanka Air Force, Police, and Police Special Task Force, the naval team played a vital role in extinguishing the fire and successfully preventing its spread, thereby mitigating a potential disaster.
