Navy briefs media on forthcoming Galle Dialogue International Maritime Conference

The Sri Lanka Navy announced preparations of the 12th edition of the Galle Dialogue International Maritime Conference during a press briefing held at Navy Headquarters today (15 Sep 25). The press briefing was chaired by the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Damian Fernando.

During the press briefing, naval officers outlined the conference's key focus areas which include fostering maritime stability, addressing evolving security challenges, and navigating the complex geopolitical landscape of the Indian Ocean Region as well as the nation's steadfast commitment to ensuring secure and stable seas.

Scheduled for the 24th and 25th of September, the conference will be hosted at the Wave n' Lake Navy Hall in Welisara. This year's theme, 'Maritime Outlook of the Indian Ocean under Changing Dynamics,' will guide discussions across five critical pillars: Marine Environment, Maritime Governance, Maritime Economy, Maritime Sustainability, and fostering a Clean Indian Ocean. The event will convene a prestigious gathering of Navy Chiefs and professionals in maritime fraternity from 36 countries and more than 14 international organizations, underscoring its significance as a premier forum for global maritime discourse.

The press briefing was also attended by senior naval officers, including Commander Northern Naval Area Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, Director General Operations Rear Admiral Harsha De Silva, Director Naval Operations Captain Athula Jayaweera, Director Naval Media Commander Buddika Sampath, Naval Representative to IORA Secretariat cum Coordinator for Secretariat of Colombo Security Conclave Commander Pathum Ranaweera and Staff Officer (Legal Services) Inquiry III, Lieutenant Thaniya Edward.
