Sri Lanka and Japanese naval forces forge stronger bonds with PASSEX
In a significant step to deepen bilateral naval cooperation, the Sri Lanka Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) successfully conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) in the western seas on 31 OCT 25.
The exercise followed the conclusion of a goodwill visit to Sri Lanka by JMSDF AKEBONO. After departing the island, the Japanese vessel seamlessly integrated with SLNS Sayura for the scheduled drills.
The PASSEX featured exercises in communication, naval air operations and tactical maneuvering, concluding with the traditional cheer ship salute.
This bilateral engagement is a testament to the growing strategic partnership between Sri Lanka and Japan. Such interactions significantly contribute to fostering a collective approach in addressing common maritime challenges and ensuring safety and security in the ocean regions.
