Rear Admiral Nimal Ranasinghe officially assumed duties as Commander Southeastern Naval Area in a formal ceremony held at the Command Headquarters in Panama on 13 Aug 25.

The Defence Advisers to the British High Commission in Colombo, Colonel Darren Woods and his successor Colonel Keith Miles called on the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda at the Navy Headquarters on 13 Aug 25. The visit served both as a farewell for the outgoing Defence Adviser and an introduction for the incoming official.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Sri Lanka, H.E. Dewi Gustina Tobing met with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda at the Navy Headquarters on 13 Aug 25.

During a formal ceremony held at the Navy Headquarters on 12 Aug 25, the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, awarded letters of appointment to 59 Officer Cadets of the Sri Lanka Navy. The group comprised 56 Officer Cadets from the 68th intake and 03 Officer Cadets enrolled under the University Grants Commission scheme.

The New Zealand High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, H.E. David Pine met with the Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kosala Warnakulasooriya on 12 Aug 25 at the Command Headquarters.

The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Rana arrived at the Port of Trincomalee on a formal visit this morning (11 Aug 25). The visiting ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) in compliance with time-honoured naval traditions.

The Navy extended its support to improve the learning environment at the Technical College, Pathadumbara, from 22 Jul to 06 Aug, under the “Shrama Meheyum” initiative of the Clean Sri Lanka national programme.

A one-day workshop on “ABC (Airway, Breathing & Circulation) of Diving Medicine” and a diving medicine exhibition was held at the Navy General Hospital, Welisara, from 06 to 08 Aug 25.

In a proud moment for the Sri Lanka Navy, Lieutenant Koyan Chamitha was commended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, at Navy Headquarters today (05 Aug 25), for his extraordinary accomplishment in completing the U.S. Navy SEAL basic training and earning the coveted SEAL Trident.
