Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe, the President and Commander - in - Chief of the Armed Forces of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka appointed Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne as the Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Navy effective from 23rd December 2022. Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera formally handed over the letter of appointment in this regard to Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne at the Navy Headquarters today (03rd January 2023) and expressed his best wishes to the newly appointed Chief of Staff.

Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara assumed office as Commander Eastern Naval Area at the Command Headquarters in Trincomalee today (02nd January 2023).

Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Aruna Tennakoon on 29th December 2022 declared open the renovated wardroom at SLNS Wasabha and a new building dedicated for the Naval Detachment ‘Queen's Tower’ in the Northern Naval Command.

The Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee launched her first ever professional publication named ‘The Porthole’ an annual journal. Commandant NMA, Commodore Damian Fernando officially presented the first journal copy to the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera at the Navy Headquarters on 29th December 2022.

Sri Lanka Navy and Police Special Task Force (STF) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Navy Headquarters on 29th December 2022. As part of the MOU, the Navy will build a mobile Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant for the Police STF contingent planned to join United Nations peacekeeping operations.

As part of the sequence of religious programmes held in view of the 72nd Anniversary of the Navy, a spiritual event was conducted at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya on 28th December 2022, with the attendance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera and the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Mala Lamahewa.
