Tree planting campaign launched to coincide with 71st anniversary of the Navy

On the sidelines of the 71st anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy, a tree planting campaign was launched in the Northern Naval Command, under the auspices of Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera on 10th December 2021.

Fifty-six (56) Midshipmen embark on their naval careers as commissioned officers

The commissioning of Midshipmen of the 34th intake (Technical) of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and 62nd intake of officer cadets of Sri Lanka Navy was held at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee on 11th December 2021. At the invitation of Commandant NMA, Commodore Damian Fernando, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne graced this occasion as the Chief Guest and took the salute. The event was also attended by President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne.

25 Navy officers graduated with ‘psc’ from Defence Services Command and Staff College

The graduation ceremony of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Sapugaskanda Course No 15 was held at Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre on 10th December 2021. The event graced by Secretary Defence, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne as the Chief Guest was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

‘Compendium of Drug Seizures at Sea by Sri Lanka Navy’ presented to Commander of the Navy

The Navy compiled a collection of records titled ‘Compendium of Drug Seizures at Sea by Sri Lanka Navy’ with regard to large scale anti-drug operations conducted by Sri Lanka Navy. The first copy of the compendium was presented to Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne by Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Prasanna Mahawithana at the Navy Headquarters today (10th December 2021)

P 627 in Seattle joins 71st anniversary celebrations of Sri Lanka Navy

The ship’s crew of P 627 joined the 71st anniversary celebrations of Sri Lanka Navy in Seattle, United States on 09th December 2021. Sri Lanka Navy acquired the ship from the United States Coast Guard in the month of October this year.

Navy-sponsored RO plant declared open in Polpithigama on 71st Navy Day

In parallel with its 71st anniversary, a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant fully sponsored by the Sri Lanka Navy, was declared open at Thelambiyawa Primary School which belongs to the Polpithigama Divisional Secretariat, Kurunegala on 09th December 2021. The opening of the facility was held under the patronage of Deputy Area Commander North Western Naval Area, Commodore Mahaendra Weerarathna.

Navy proudly celebrates its 71st anniversary in keeping with time-honoured traditions

Sri Lanka Navy, popularly known as the First Line of Defence of the island nation is proudly celebrating its 71st anniversary today (09th December 2021). Following the directives and guidance of Commander of the Navy a range of celebratory events are conducted in each Naval Command, giving pride and place to naval customs and religious rituals. On the sidelines of these celebrations, capital ships of the Sri Lanka Navy will lay at anchor off the Galle Face Green and the ships will be there on 09th and 10th December, allowing the general public to catch the glimpse of naval power of Sri Lanka.

Commander of the Navy presides ‘Rana Daruwo’ book launching ceremony marking 140th anniversary of National Cadet Corps

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne presided over the public launching of the book titled ‘Rana Daruwo’ authored by Captain MN Dharmarathna at the Royal College, Colombo today (08th December 2021). Captain MN Dharmarathna, who was in charge of the Royal College Cadet Platoon as Officer Commander and went on to serve the College as its Deputy Principal, launched this publication to coincide with the 140th anniversary of National Cadet Corps (NCC) as well as Royal College Cadetting.
