Navy launches mangrove planting programme to coincide with International Mangrove Day

Sri Lanka Navy conducted a beach cleaning and mangrove planting programme to coincide with the International Mangrove Day. These programmes were held under the auspices of Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Bandula Senarathna in the beach areas of Talaimannar and Nachchikuda today (26th July 2021).

Passenger Vessel “Vadatharaki” resumes service on completion of repairs by Navy

Transportation between the islands of Punguduthivu and Delft was severely disrupted due to the non-operational condition of "Vadatharaki" – a Passenger Vessel deployed by the Road Development Authority to transport passengers and goods between Kurikadduwan Jetty on Punguduthivu Island and Delft Island in Jaffna. Following major repairs done by the Navy, the Passenger Vessel resumed its usual service commencing from 15th July 2021.

Navy sets new deep sea diving record

Even it is seen as a fascinating thing to glide around enjoying the underwater sights, diving entails some risk. Banishing all these risks aside, a diving officer of the Sri Lanka Navy together with his buddy diver set a new deep sea diving record in Trincomalee on 17th July 2021. Commander Nishantha Balasooriya – the Command Diving Officer at Naval Dockyard Trincomalee, along with his buddy - Able Diver WWNP Sandaruwan set a new record plunging an astonishing depth of 100 meters off the Elephant Island, Trincomalee.

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit steps into build RO plant at Siri Sambuddha Weerasingharamaya in Eppawala

As another social responsibility initiative of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), a Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant set up at Siri Sambuddha Weerasingharamaya in Eppawala was declared open by the President NSVU, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne on 17th July 2021. Responding to a request of the Deputy Chief Sanghanayake of the North Central Province, Ven. Panvila Gunaratana Nayaka Thero, the NSVU-sponsored new facility was established at the temple premises.

Navy markswoman qualified for Tokyo Olympics advanced to next rate by Commander of the Navy

Leading Woman Communicator Tehani Egodawela, serving in the Sri Lanka Navy, has qualified for Tokyo Olympics 2020 in the women's 10m air rifle 0.177 event, bringing a lot of credit to the Sri Lanka Navy and the country. In appreciation of her achievement, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne advanced her to the next higher rate of Petty Officer and rewarded the athlete with a cash incentive of Rs. 250,000 at the Navy Headquarters today (16th July 2021). The event took place maintaining the biosecurity protocols that she is undergoing within the bubble to avert COVID-19 contamination, as required by the regulations of the game.

20th meeting of North Indian Ocean Hydrographic Commission concludes

The 20th meeting of the North Indian Ocean Hydrographic Commission (NIOHC-20) commenced on 13th July 2021 under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy and incumbent NIOHC Chair, Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne, at Naval Wing of the National Hydrographic Office, National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA). After 03 days of successful discussion, the curtains were brought down today (15th July) marking the culmination of the event.

The newly established Hemodialysis Unit at the Navy General Hospital, Welisara was declared open under the auspices of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and with the attendance of the President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne today (15th July 2021).
