High Dependency Unit of Kalubowila Teaching Hospital declared open

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne today (25th June 2021) presided over the opening of High Dependency Unit (HDU) of Colombo South Teaching Hospital Kalubowila, renovated with Navy’s able manpower, as part of its initiatives to strengthen the Government's programme to expand infrastructure required to treat individuals tested positive for COVID-19. In response to a request made by the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka Navy undertook the setting up of this special unit for which financial sponsorship was made by philanthropist from both home and away.

Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training – (CARAT–21) Exercise gets underway in Trincomalee

The inauguration of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training Exercise-2021 popularly known as CARAT got underway at Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee under real-time virtual setting today (24th June 2021). Working shoulder-to-shoulder in their commitment to expand relationships and broaden maritime awareness, this year’s exercise is joined by the Sri Lanka Navy, United States 7th Fleet and Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF). The sequential phases of this naval exercise are scheduled to take place until 30th June 2021 in the Trincomalee harbour and off the eastern coast of Sri Lanka.

‘Commander Parakrama Samaraweera Memorial Indoor Sports Complex’ opened in Welisara

Having named after the newly constructed Navy sporting facility as ‘Commander Parakrama Samaraweera Memorial Indoor Sports Complex’, it was declared open under the patronage of Commander of the Navy and President Navy Sports Board, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and with the attendance of beloved wife of late Commander Parakrama Samaraweera, Mrs. Sudarshani Samaraweera at Welisara Naval Complex today (23rd June 2021).

“100 years of international cooperation in hydrography” - Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service celebrates World Hydrographic Day

A need for a navigational chart aroused as man started to navigate through waters and the importance of hydrography came into play since then. Hydrography involves a process, from collecting data in the field to the preparation of the chart in accordance with the highest international standards and contributes immensely to the economic development of a country. The International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), which has 94 member countries including Sri Lanka, coordinates hydrographic activities worldwide through 15 Regional Hydrographic Commissions (RHCs). The IHO was founded in Monaco on 21st June 1921.

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) training ships ‘KASHIMA’ and ‘SETOYUKI’ which arrived in Sri Lanka on a three-day visit on 18th June 2021, conducted a passage exercise (PASSEX) with Sri Lanka Navy, as they departed from the port of Colombo today (20th June).
