The United Nations has declared May 20 as World Bee Day with the aim of promoting beekeeping around the world and to protect bee population. On the sidelines of this global event, Sri Lanka Navy introduced the 50^th bee colony to the ‘Project Navy Bees’ run by Naval Dockyard Trincomalee on 20^th May 2021, with the objective of popularizing beekeeping.

To coincide with the 12th National War Heroes’ Day, the Navy organized its main event to commemorate naval war veterans, under the patronage of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Naval War Hero Monument in Welisara on 19^th May 2021. On the sidelines of this, a series of programmes to recall the cherished memory of fallen combatants of the Navy were held in Naval Commands.

The Bishop of Galle, Most Rev. Raymond Wickramasinghe handed over a stock of medical supplies to Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Prasanna Hewage on 19^th May 2021. These items will be used for the treatment of patients at the Intermediate Care Centre for COVID-19, managed by Sri Lanka Navy in Boossa, Galle.

Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne, who was recently appointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Navy, called on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters today (20^th May 2021).

Rear Admiral Udaya Hettiarachchi today (20^th May 2021) retired from naval service, upon completion of his distinguished career spanning over 35 years in the Navy.

The National War Heroes’ Day commemoration which was held under the auspices of Commander in Chief of Armed Forces, His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the National War Heroes’ Monument in Battaramulla today (19^th May 2021). The ceremony held in a dignified sequence was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

A solemn ceremony to commemorate fallen Navy war veterans who made the supreme sacrifice for the defeat of terrorism that battered the country nearly three decades, was held under the patronage of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Naval War Hero Monument in Welisara today (19^th May 2021).

Rear Admiral Meril Sudarshana today (19^th May 2021) relinquished naval duties to which he was committed over the past 35 years.

Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to reinstall the floating boom that had been washed away in Kelani river on 18^th May 2021. This floating boom which prevents floating debris from entering the water intake well had disintegrated following the rising water levels of the Kelani river during adverse weather condition prevailed in the past couple of days.

Rear Admiral Upul De Silva assumed duties as Commander Western Naval Area at the Command Headquarters today (18^th May 2021).
