Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne today (15^th May 2021) made a visit to review the progress of amenity expansion in Intermediate Care Centre for COVID-19 in Gampaha as well as Wathupitiwala, Gampaha and Minuwangoda Hospitals . In support of the government’s effort to improve health care facilities for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, Sri Lanka Navy is currently working in full swing to complete these projects in the Gampaha district, following the directives of His Excellency the President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa and guidance of Secretary of Defence, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne.

On the sidelines of the vaccination programme set about to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sri Lanka Navy in collaboration with the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) in Katunayake Export Processing Zone (EPZ) carried out another inoculation drive to administer ‘Sinopharm’ vaccination to employees of EPZ today (15^th May 2021).

The newly constructed pediatric unit of Navy General Hospital Welisara was declared open under the auspices of the President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU) Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne and with the attendance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the hospital premises today (14th May 2021). The amenities of Navy General Hospital Welisara were further expanded with this new facility in a bid to extend more health care facilities to the children of naval families.

A blood donation campaign organized by the Navy and National Blood Transfusion Service was held with the contribution of naval personnel at Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Kawanthissa, Hambantota today (14th May 2021).

As yet another social responsibility initiative of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), 03 High Dependency Unit / Intensive Care Unit (HDU / ICU) beds were provided for the use of Special Maternity Unit of the Colombo East Base Hospital, Mulleriyawa. The generous deed was held under the patronage of the NSVU President, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne and with the attendance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Light House Galley on 12^th May 2021.

Upon completion of his distinguished career spanning over 33 years in Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Bandara Jayathilaka retired from naval service today (12^th May 2021).

In support of the acceleration of government's COVID 19 vaccination campaign, with a view to mitigate the outbreak of Coronavirus, Sri Lanka Navy in coordination with health authorities began administering the Sinopharm vaccine to government and private sector employees engaged in essential services, at two locations in the Gampaha District today (11th May 2021).

Sri Lanka Navy made its contribution to launch a number of projects to expand facilities for the treatment of COVID 19 patients in the Western and Southern Provinces, in support of the government's efforts to improve the infrastructure of the health sector, in the face of ongoing pandemic situation.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne recognized a fine virtue of Leading Seaman AGHS Udayakumara XS 100126 by awarding him a Letter of Commendation at the Naval Headquarters today (10th May 2021). Thus, the sailor was much admired for returning a wallet with money lying at the No 03 entrance of Colombo harbour on 27th April 2021, to its owner.

Working in line with the Government's efforts to expand facilities required to treat COVID 19 contracted individuals, Sri Lanka Navy established an Intermediate Care Centre for COVID 19 with 162 beds, at the Boossa naval base in Galle on 04th May 2021.
