Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera was appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy with effect from 12^th September 2020, by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The inaugural ceremony of the International Coastal Cleanup Day and National Marine Resources Conservation Week – 2020 organized by the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) was held under the patronage of Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The event that got off the ground at Mount Lavinia Beach today (19^th September 2020) was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

His Excellency Mohammed Ashraf Haidari, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Sri Lanka paid a courtesy call on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters, today (16^th September 2020).

Commander Eastern Naval Area, meeting with the Commanding Officers of Indian Coast Guard Ships ‘Sujay’ and ‘Samudra Paheredar’ in Trincomalee, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional cooperation rendered by them in averting a major environmental disaster by successfully dousing the fire onboard MT New Diamond.

Commodore Jayantha Gamage assumed duties as the Acting Commander Southeastern Naval Area at the Command Headquarters on 15th September 2020.

Facilitating a cruise in northern waters, the Navy welcomed two hundred (200) Advanced Level students and a group of government officials in the Jaffna Peninsula onboard Navy’s whale watching craft in the last weekend.
