The anniversaries of SLNS 'Kanchadewa' - a naval base belonging to the Northern Naval Command and Sri Lanka Navy Ship 'Jayasagara' were celebrated on a high note today (09^th December 2019).

During a search conducted in the seas off Pesalai in Mannar, the Navy found a haul of about 1448kg beedi leaves on 9^th December 2019.

Four (04) persons who engaged in illegal catching of sea cucumber were apprehended by Navy during a patrol carried out at the Palleimunai beach area in Mannar on 09^th December 2019.

During joint operations conducted in Kinniya and Puttalam areas on 08^th December 2019, the Navy with the assistance of the Police held 03 persons for possessing drugs.

Navy carried out a diving operation in search of a person who had drowned and gone missing in Ganduwa sea area off Weligama, on 8^th December 2019 and recovered the dead body of the missing person.

During the period of World War II, the British Emperor had clearly envisaged the strategic importance of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and the necessity of a navy to ensure the Sea Lines of Communication (SLOC) or key maritime passageways lying in the vicinity of this teardrop island.

A naval search operation is currently underway to locate 02 persons who went missing after falling into water from a dinghy on 08^th December 2019. Apart from the two missing ones, another person has died from the accident.

Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 02 persons who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets, in the seas off Palliyawasalpadu area in Kalpitiya, on 7^th December 2019.

Several beach cleaning programmes of the Sri Lanka Navy were conducted in Northern and Southern Naval Commands on 07^th December 2019.

A Hindu religious programme to invoke blessings on the Sri Lanka Navy’s 69th anniversary which falls on 09^th December, was held at the Shri Ponnambalawaneswaram Kovil in Colombo on 06th December.
