CISM Day Run 2025 kicks off in Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte
The International Military Sport Council (CISM) Day Run was flagged off under the patronage of the Commander of the Army and President of the Defence Services Sports Board, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo in Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte today (18 Feb 25). The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda and the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe also participated in the event, joining military personnel and sports enthusiasts.

Australia delivers Shallow Water Multi-Beam Echo Sounder to strengthen Sri Lanka’s hydrographic capabilities
Giving a significant boost to Sri Lanka’s hydrographic capabilities, the government of Australia handed over a state-of-the-art Shallow Water Multi-Beam Echo Sounder to the Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service (SLNHS) during a ceremony held at SLNS Rangalla today (18 Feb 25). The formal ceremony was held under the auspices of the High Commissioner of Australia to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Paul Stephens and the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, marking new chapter in the discipline of hydrography.

SLNS Vijayabahu returns after taking part in AMAN – 2025
Sri Lanka Navy Ship (SLNS) Vijayabahu which took part in the multinational naval exercise AMAN – 2025, hosted for the ninth time by Pakistan Navy, arrived the island on successful completion of the exercise today (17 Feb 25). Upon her arrival, the Navy welcomed the ship in compliance with naval traditions at the Port of Colombo.

Indonesian Naval Ship KRI BUNG TOMO - 357 departs island
The Indonesian Naval Ship KRI BUNG TOMO - 357 which arrived at the Port of Colombo on a goodwill visit on 16 Feb 25, departed the island today (17 Feb). The Sri Lanka Navy bade customary farewell to the departing ship in accordance with naval traditions.

RO plant at Parasangaswewa, Anuradhapura declared open for community use
The Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant, built as part of the Naval Social Responsibility (NSR) Project by the Navy's Research and Development Unit was declared open at Nigrodharama Viharaya in Parasangaswewa, Anuradhapura today (16 Feb 25). The project, carried out with industrial expertise of the Research and Development Unit, was funded by the Sirasa Gammadda CSR initiative. Also, the facility marked the 1080th unit delivered under the NSR Project.

Navy joins forces to clean beaches and tourist hotspots
In support of the government's Clean Sri Lanka initiative, the Sri Lanka Navy lent its helping hand to various cleanup programmes across the Western, Southeastern, and Eastern Provinces on 15 and 16 Feb 25. These efforts included cleaning beaches and popular tourist spots under the "A Beautiful Beach - An Attractive Tourist Destination" project.

Sri Lanka and UK elevate hydrographic cooperation
In a major step forward for Sri Lanka's efforts to boost its hydrographic capabilities, the Sri Lanka National Hydrographic Office (SLNHO) and the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) inked a historic bilateral arrangement today (14 Feb 25). The event took place at the Ministry of Defence, underscoring the commitment to strengthen collaboration in hydrography. The partnership will focus on knowledge sharing, capacity development, technical cooperation, and generating revenue by marketing Sri Lanka’s hydrographic products globally.
