Naval personnel attached to SLNS Therapuththa located in Silawathurai in the Northwestern Naval Command arrested 9 local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities using unlawful fishing gear in the sea area of Silawathurai yesterday (22).

On receipt of intelligence information, Naval personnel attached to SLNS Thambapanni located in Puttalam in the Northwestern Naval Command, in coordination with Puttalam Police, arrested two persons for having 2 kg of Kerala Cannabis in their possession, in the general area of Palavi yesterday (22).

The Navy’s Research and Development Unit being the innovative hand of the Sri Lanka Navy performed an excellent service over the years. Upon the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne and under the leadership of Captain Priyankara Dissanayake the Navy initiated several new projects to address the social issues found among the civilian population, with a new dimension.

Naval personnel stationed at the Port of Hambantota rendered assistance to eleven Merchant Vessels which arrived at the harbour from 10th to 21st December 2016.
