Navy takes hold of smuggled Tendu leaves weighing over 6230kg in August

The Sri Lanka Navy took hold of over 6230kg of Tendu leaves, during special search operations conducted in the month of August alone in 2023. During these operations the Navy also apprehended 09 suspects and 03 dinghies in connection to these incidents.

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Norochcholai Police near the Karambe Junction roadblock in Puttalam on 03rd September 2023 led to the apprehension of a lorry with over 660kg of smuggled Kendu leaves and a suspect in connection to the incident.

A cab used to smuggle drugs in disguise and 05 suspects held in Jaffna

A combined search operation mounted by the Navy, Police and Police STF in Urumpirai, Jaffna on 29th and 30th August 2023 led to the seizure of a cab used to smuggle drugs. The naval and STF personnel also held 05 suspects, a motorcycle (01), and Rs. 15 million during this operation.

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Seeduwa Police STF in Nainamadama area of Seeduwa on 23rd August 2023 led to the recovery of about 176kg of smuggled Kendu leaves in an abandoned house in the locality.

Navy seizes about 2447kg of smuggled Kendu leaves

Separate operations conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in Puttalam, Palaviya, Chilaw and Negombo areas on 22nd and 23rd August 2023 led to the seizure and recovery of about 2447kg (wet weight) of smuggled Kendu leaves. During these operations, 01 suspect and 01 lorry in connection to these illegal acts were also taken into custody.

Navy apprehends 02 suspects with 99kg of smuggled Kendu leaves in Puttalam Lagoon

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy off the Mattathivu Island in Puttalam Lagoon in the dark hours of 21st August 2023 led to the apprehension of 02 suspects with about 99kg (wet weight) of smuggled Kendu leaves being smuggled by a dinghy.
