Navy’s Good Samaritans rescue 03 fishermen from capsized trawler in southern waters

In a dedicated search and rescue operation mounted on 13th December 2022, Sri Lanka Navy rescued 03 fishermen from a distressed trawler in southern waters. The rescuees were brought ashore and admitted to the District General Hospital, Hambantota. Reportedly, their fishing trawler had capsized about 180 nautical miles (333km) off Dondra Point, following adverse weather.

Navy rescues 04 fishermen including one trapped in capsized trawler in south-eastern waters

In a dedicated search and rescue operation, Sri Lanka Navy rescued 04 fishermen, including a fisher trapped inside a multiday fishing trawler for 04 days, as their trawler was in distress in south-eastern waters, and rushed them to the Kalmunai Hospital for treatment today (11 December 2022). Reportedly, the fishing trawler had capsized about 46 nautical miles (85km) off the Sangaman Kanda Point, following adverse weather.

A 521 traces naval craft at sea without communication links

Sri Lanka Navy’s Auxiliary Ship A 521 on a dedicated search and rescue mission, this afternoon (18th October 2022) re-established communication links with the naval craft with which the Navy had no means of connection for about a month, since September 17th, when it was on a special surveillance operation off the southern coast.

Navy rescues 38 local tourists aboard a distressed trawler in Kalpitiya seas

Sri Lanka Navy sprang into action to rescue 38 persons aboard a distressed trawler, while it was carrying the group of local tourists from Kalpitiya to Baththalangunduwa on the evening of 01st October 2022. The trawler was in desperate situation following a leakage of sea water into the craft.

Distressed Indian fishing trawler in Sri Lanka’s waters handed over to Indian Coast Guard

Sri Lanka Navy handed over a distressed Indian fishing trawler, found in Sri Lanka’s waters due to a mechanical failure, to the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Annie Besant at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) this morning (28th September 2022). The distressed fishing trawler with a ceased engine was spotted by the Sri Lanka Navy about 26 nautical miles (48 Km) off Point Pedro in northern waters.

Navy renders assistance to bring ashore ill fisherman for treatment

Sri Lanka Navy brought ashore a fisherman who fell ill while at sea and rushed him to the hospital for treatment today (23rd September 2022). The fisherman who was aboard a local multiday fishing trawler, in seas about 65 nautical miles (about 120 km) northeast of the Foul Point, Trincomalee, had suddenly fallen ill and was in need of medical attention.
