Navy takes hold of Crystal Methamphetamine worth over Rs. 9 Mn street value in Kalpitiya

Sri Lanka Navy took hold of a dinghy carrying about 988g of Crystal Methamphetamine (Ice), following a patrol off Uchchamunai, Kalpitiya on the evening of 08th December 2022.

The Navy conducts regular patrols and operations to prevent the influx of contraband and other forms of illegal drugs into the island. In a similar operation, this apprehension was made by a craft of Navy Marines attached to the Naval Detachment Uchchamunai of SLNS Vijaya in the Northwestern Naval Command on 08th December. The naval patrol off Uchchamunai had led to identify a suspicious dinghy in the sea area and the dinghy speeded off towards Rosapadu Beach, when seen the naval craft. Subsequently, the Navy conducted a search and found the abandoned dinghy in the beach area and recovered about 988g of Crystal Methamphetamine from it. Accordingly, the dinghy and narcotic substance were taken into naval custody.

Meanwhile, the gross street value of seized drugs is believed to be over Rs. 9 million.

The amount of Crystal Methamphetamine held in this operation was handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau and the dinghy has been kept in naval custody.
