Two (02) suspects collected money for illegal immigration racket held in Negombo
A coordinated search operation mounted by the Navy and Police in Negombo on 04th January 2023 led to the apprehension of 02 suspects. The individuals are suspected to have collected money from people promising jobs in a foreign country after facilitating illegal migration.
The search operation was carried out in Negombo on the evening of 04th January with the assistance of Negombo Police, based on information received by the Naval Intelligence. Accordingly, the raiding party had intercepted a suspicious car in which the suspects were travelling. They are said to have collected Rs. 05 million from 20 people promising overseas jobs after facilitating illegal migration.
The apprehended suspects, aged 30 and 41, are residents of Chilaw and Kilinochchi areas. The 02 suspects along with the vehicle were handed over to the Negombo Police for onward legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Navy urges the general public to take precautions to prevent engaging in such unlawful activities, attempting to leave the country illegally, and being found guilty.
