Three (03) suspects with over 03kg of Kerala cannabis held in Talaimannar

A combined search operation conducted by the Navy and Police at the Old Pier area of Talaimannar on 09th March 2023 led to the apprehension of 03 suspects in possession of over 03 kg (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis.

The Navy conducts regular patrols and search operations in the coastal and sea areas of the island to prevent the influx of contraband and other nefarious activities.

As an extension of these efforts the special search operation was carried out in coordination with the Mannar Police, on receipt of information from an intelligence operation carried out by SLNS Thammanna in the North Central Naval Command and SLNS Therapuththa in the Northwestern Naval Command. Accordingly, the raiding party searched 03 suspicious individuals at the Old Pier area of Talaimannar and found about 03kg and 295g (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis in their possession. The seized Kerala cannabis made ready to sell, were in 02 packages.

Meanwhile, the gross street value of the apprehended Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 01 million.

The suspects apprehended in connection to the incident are residents of Talaimannar. The accused along with seized Kerala cannabis were handed over to the Mannar Police for onward legal action.
