A suspect with hashish held in Silawathura

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Mannar Police in Silawathura on 27th April 2023 led to the apprehension of a suspect with 893g of hashish.

Through its constant vigilance and persistent efforts, the Sri Lanka Navy is making significant strides in eradicating the scourge of drugs from the country. Based on information received by the Northwestern Naval Command, the combined operation was mounted by SLNS Therapuththa and Mannar Police in Silawathura area in the evening of 27th April.

Accordingly, a person in the area was interrogated on suspicion and a hashish parcel made ready for sale was recovered in his possession. Thus, the suspect along with the parcel of narcotics weighing about 893g was taken into custody. Meanwhile, the street value of seized narcotics is believed to be around Rs. 800,000.

The apprehended suspect is a 24 year old resident of Silawathura area. The accused together with the parcel of hashish was handed over to the Mannar Police for onward legal action.
