Navy intensifies flood relief efforts across Western, Southern, and Sabaragamuwa Provinces

Amidst severe weather conditions, the Navy has deployed its relief teams to aid flood-affected communities in the Western, Southern, and Sabaragamuwa provinces. The teams rescued 102 individuals in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Rathnapura, Galle and Matara districts, from flood emergencies as of this evening (03rd June 2024). In addition, the Navy has facilitated the transportation by boats, for approximately 919 people to fulfil their daily necessities.

A total of 50 Navy teams are actively engaged in relief efforts across various affected regions. Specifically, there are 14 teams operating in the Kaduwela, Meethotamulla, Seethawaka, Hanwella and Biyagama areas of Colombo district; 09 teams in the Baduraliya, Bulathsinhala, Ingiriya, and Welipenna areas of Kalutara district; 04 teams in Dompe, Gampaha and Veyangoda areas of Gampaha district; 2 teams in Kalawana and Kiriella areas of Rathnapura district; 6 teams in the Thawalama, Udugama, Baddegama, and Nagoda areas of Galle district; and 15 teams in the Matara, Malimbada, Akuressa, Panathugama, and Kamburupitiya areas of Matara district. These teams are working diligently to support the affected communities.

Moreover, the Navy has prepared additional relief teams for rapid deployment in collaboration with the Disaster Management Centers.
