Navy takes hold of about 477kg of smuggled dried turmeric in Kalpitiya

A search operation conducted by the Navy on the Paramunai Island, Kalpitiya on 11th July 2024 led to the recovery of about 477kg of dried turmeric, believed to have been smuggled into the country.

The Sri Lanka Navy remains ever alert and conducts patrols and search operations in the coastal areas of the island to prevent the influx of illegal items.

As an extension of these efforts, SLNS Vijaya in the Northwestern Naval Command conducted this search operation on the Paramunai Island. The search led to the recovery of 15 sacks of dried turmeric, believed to have been smuggled into the country. The consignment of dried turmeric weighed about 477kg.

Meanwhile, the stock of dried turmeric seized in this operation has been kept in the safe custody of the Navy until legal action into the incident gets underway.
