Navy takes hold of more than 843kg of smuggled Tendu leaves

The Navy took hold of more than 843kg of smuggled Tendu leaves, during a search operation conducted in the Maikkulama area of the Chilaw lagoon on 04th September 2024.

The operation was mounted by SLNS Rangalla belonging to the Western Naval Command in the Maikkulama area of the Chilaw lagoon. The operation resulted in the recovery of about 843kg and 950g of smuggled Tendu leaves in 28 sacks which had been hidden in nearby shrubs.

Meanwhile, a 25kg sack of ammonium bicarbonate with Tendu leaves was also held in this operation. The stock of Tendu leaves and the sack of ammonium bicarbonate recovered in this operation were handed over to the Excise Office – Waikkala for onward legal proceedings.
