Navy renders assistance to bring ashore crew member of merchant vessel for medical attention
In a swift rescue mission, the Sri Lanka Navy on 30 Mar 25 evacuated an injured Chinese national from a Merchant Vessel off the southern coast and rushed him to the hospital for treatment. The individual, who had been in need of medical attention following an accident, was aboard the MV AE Neptune, sailing about 63 nautical miles (116 km) from Galle. The operation was coordinated by Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo with the assistance of the Navy.
The developments had prompted MV AE Neptune to alert the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo seeking immediate assistance to bring the Chinese national ashore, as he was in need of medical attention following an accident in the engine room. Responding swiftly to the situation, the Navy dispatched a craft with a medical team to bring the injured person ashore.
In the Offshore Petrol Limits of Galle, the Navy safely retrieved the Chinese national from MV AE Neptune and brought him to the Galle Harbour, while administering first aid. Subsequently, he was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
In its commitment to maritime safety, the Sri Lanka Navy remains on high alert to provide immediate assistance to fishing and seafaring communities in distress across the country’s Search and Rescue jurisdiction.
