Coordinated effort averts potential fire disaster at Galle Fisheries Harbour

A fire that broke out on a fishing trawler in the shipyard at the Galle Fisheries Harbour was swiftly brought under control on 10 Aug 25 with the assistance of Sri Lanka Navy firefighters.

Upon receiving a distress call by the Southern Naval Command, a firefighting team from SLNS Dakshina was promptly deployed to the scene with a fire truck (01) and two water bowsers (02). The Navy team, working in close coordination with the Galle Municipal Council Firefighting Unit, Disaster Management Centre, Galle and fisheries community successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to 05 nearby fishing boats.

Their joint effort averted a potential disaster, safeguarding valuable fishing assets at the harbour.
