Navy takes hold of massive haul of Kendu leaves off Chilaw

The Sri Lanka Navy seized a consignment of over 1,273kg of Kendu leaves during a search operation conducted in the seas off Chilaw on 15 Mar 26.

The operation, carried out by a naval craft attached to the Western Naval Command, resulted in the interception of a suspicious dinghy navigating the area. Upon inspection of the dinghy, naval personnel discovered Kendu leaves stuffed in 34 sacks. Along with the large stock of Kendu leaves, the Navy apprehended 02 suspects and the dinghy used for the illegal transport.

Following the recovery, the entire consignment, along with the suspects and the dinghy, was handed over to the Customs Preventive Office at the Port of Colombo for further legal proceedings and investigation.
