Sri Lanka Navy today (18th August 2024) deployed a flood relief team in the Paragoda area of Kalutara district, following heavy rains due to inclement weather.

A search operation conducted by the Navy and Police led to the recovery of 380 Pregabalin capsules from a house in the Pandaraweli area of Silawathura on 17th August 2024.

The Navy took hold of about 208kg (wet weight) of Tendu leaves washed ashore, during separate search operations conducted in the beach vicinity of Urumalai and Old Pier in Talaimannar on 11th and 12th August 2024.

The Navy apprehended 09 persons for their involvement in light-coarse fishing, during search operations conducted in the beach and sea areas of Kaddaikadu in Kilinochchi on 12th August 2024. The operations also resulted in the seizure of 05 dinghies and unauthorized fishing gear.

A special search operation conducted by the Navy and Police in the Puthukuduirippu area of Silawathura on the morning of 13th August 2024, led to the arrest of a suspect with 482 illegally harvested sea cucumbers, made ready for sale.

A special operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy off the Kudiramalei Point of northwestern seas, south of Mannar on 12th August 2024, led to the interception of an Indian dhow trespassing onto the Sri Lankan waters, with 2689kg (wet weight) of Tendu leaves. The operation also resulted in the apprehension of 03 Indian nationals in connection to the incident.

The Navy took hold of about 410kg and 800g (wet weight) of smuggled Tendu leaves, during separate search operations conducted in the beach and sea areas of Mannar and Kalpitiya on 10th and 11th August 2024.

During a coordinated operation by the Navy and Police, a Sri Lankan national who arrived on the shores of Thal Deka (Kadawatha), Vennappuwa by an Indian fishing boat was arrested on 10th August 2024.

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard off the Kudiramalei Point of northwestern seas, south of Mannar on 09th August 2024, led to the interception of 03 dinghies with about 2,068kg (wet weight) of smuggled Tendu leaves and 06 suspects.

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the beach area of Kandakuliya and sea area off Uchchamuni of Kalpitiya on 08th August 2024, led to the recovery of about 3524kg (wet weight) of Tendu leaves. It is believed the consignment of Tendu leaves was smuggled into the country via sea.
