Navy's oarsmen and women dominate 39th National Rowing Championship

The 39th Junior, Intermediate, and Senior National Rowing Championship 2024 was held at Diyawanna waters from 03rd to 06th April 2024. At the event, Navy athletes secured second place in both the men's and women's categories, and also clinched the men's intermediate championship.

At this tournament, which saw the participation of numerous renowned rowers from the island, Leading Seaman WGSL Gunarathna, Leading Seaman NGAN Gunawardena, Able Seaman HASG Hathurusingha, and Able Infantryman ESVJN Premakumara secured gold medals in the open men's M 4- event. Meanwhile, in the M2x event, silver medals were won by Able Seaman SMHS Samarakoon and Leading Infantryman PGDS Gunathilake.

Also, Able Seaman JAN Madusanka and Able Infantryman ESVJN Premakumara won silver medals in the M2- event. The bronze medal in the M1x event was won by Able Seaman SMHS Samarakoon. In addition, Able Seaman JAN Madusanka and Able Infantryman ESVJN Premakumara won gold medals in the Rowing Intermediate M2x event. The gold medals in M2- event were also won by Able Seaman SMHS Samarakoon and Able Infantryman PGDS Gunathilaka. Moreover, Able Seaman JAN Madusanka won a silver medal in the M1x event.

In women’s category, Woman Leading Seaman WAU Subhashini and Woman Able Seaman SASN Jayasinghe won silver medal in W2x event and gold medal in W2- event.
