Navy’s top boxers dominate at Inter-Command Boxing Championship 2025
The Inter-Command Boxing Championship 2025, held from 27 to 30 Jun 25 at the Naval Dockyard Boxing Ring in Trincomalee, concluded with thrilling victories as the Northwestern Naval Command and the Training Command emerged champions in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
A number of Navy boxers from Naval Commands showcased their skills in the intense competition where the Northwestern Naval Command dominated the men’s category, securing 05 gold and 01 bronze medals. The Training Command triumphed in the women’s category with 05 gold, 01 silver and 04 bronze medals.
The much-coveted Best Boxer (Men’s) title was won by Ordinary Seaman WRGMK Weerasinghe of the Northwestern Naval Command, who competed in the 48kg weight class. Meanwhile, Woman Recruit SD Heenatigala of the Northern Naval Command, who fought in the 54kg category, claimed the Best Boxer (Women’s) honour.
The awards ceremony of the Inter-Command Boxing Championship was graced by Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera. The Secretary of Navy Boxing Pool, Commander SMLB Sakalasooriya and a group of officers and sailors from the Eastern Naval Command were present on this occasion.
