Sri Lanka Navy women’s cricket team clinches championship title in undefeated season
The Sri Lanka Navy women’s cricket team has secured a resounding victory, claiming the championship title in the Sri Lanka Cricket Domestic Major League Women’s Limited Overs Tournament 2025 without a single defeat. The tournament, organized by Sri Lanka Cricket and featuring ten of the island's premier sports clubs, ran from 30 Jul to 17 Aug 25.
The Navy team delivered a dominant performance throughout the competition, securing decisive victories against Chilaw Marians, Army, Baduraliya, SSC, Colts, Ace Capital, CCC, and Panadura Sports Clubs. This flawless record propelled them to the top of the points table and into the tournament final.
In the championship match held at the Air Force Cricket Stadium in Katunayake, the Navy women’s team triumphed over the Air Force by a commanding 41 runs. Batting first, the Navy posted a competitive total of 183 for 8 in their 50 overs. The team's bowlers then delivered a superb performance, dismissing the Air Force for 142 in 45 overs. The innings was anchored by a superb 62 runs from Hasini Perera, well-supported by Hansima Karunaratne (39) and Nilakshana Sandamini (33). Spinner Inoka Ranaweera led the bowling attack with an exceptional figure of 4 wickets for 22 runs.
The team's excellence was further highlighted with Harshitha Samarawickrama, Sri Lanka national women’s team batter, emerged as the highest run scorer and was adjudged the Best Batter of the Tournament, amassing 471 runs in 8 matches. Also, Inoka Ranaweera, the experienced left-arm spinner, finished as the highest wicket taker, claiming 23 wickets in 08 matches, and was named the Best Bowler of the Tournament.
