Navy continues to support national dengue control programme

29 Jul 2026

The Sri Lanka Navy has continued its active support for the national dengue control programme, contributing personnel to a nationwide campaign aimed at preventing the spread of dengue and promoting public health.

The initiative is jointly organised by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit and the Environmental Protection Division of the Sri Lanka Police.

On 27 July, 97 naval personnel attached to the Western Naval Command joined Medical Officer of Health (MOH) officials, Divisional Secretariat staff, Public Health Inspectors and members of the International Red Cross in carrying out dengue prevention activities.

These efforts covered the areas of Borella, Panadura, Narahenpita, Kelaniya, Ragama, Mahara, Wattala, Gampaha and Modara, where a total of 3,202 premises were inspected. During the inspections, 268 potential mosquito breeding sites were identified.

In parallel with the national programme, the Sri Lanka Navy has also been conducting environmental inspections across all naval commands to support dengue prevention and environmental health.
