Navy renders assistance to dengue prevention programme at University of Moratuwa
In a major stride towards eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, the Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to a dengue prevention campaign at the University of Moratuwa today (7 July 2026). This initiative aligns with the “Towards a Dengue-Free Colombo” national programme, jointly implemented by the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit, and the Police Environmental Protection Division.
Actively contributing to this island-wide week of action running from 5 to 12 July, a dedicated contingent of fifty-nine (59) naval personnel joined hands with this timely endeavour. The mission was successfully executed with the collaborative support of the Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) and the university administration.
During the campaign, naval personnel inspected the entire university premises, focusing on student hostels, administrative buildings, sports complexes, and surrounding areas prone to water stagnation. The teams successfully identified potential mosquito breeding sites, dismantled water-retentive structures, and managed waste accumulation to ensure a safer, healthier environment for the university community.
