Sri Lanka Navy marks Vesak rooted in sacred rituals
The Sri Lanka Navy commemorated the 2570th Sri Sambuddha Jayanthi Vesak Festival, which fell on 30 May 26, marking the thrice-blessed day of the Lord Buddha with devotion. Under the directives and guidance of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, a series of Buddhist religious programmes was organised across all Naval Commands. These initiatives prioritised both spiritual offerings (Amisa Pooja) and the practice of the Dhamma (Pratipatti Pooja).
Demonstrating its multifaceted skills, the Sri Lanka Navy contributed its manpower, technical expertise, and professional support to the State Vesak Festival centered at the Midellawala Purana Viharaya in Thihagoda, Matara and other major Vesak Zones across the island.
Naval personnel engaged in these Vesak programmes with enthusiasm and dedication, making a significant contribution to promoting the Buddhist values of compassion, kindness, peace, and positive social ethics among the public. Through this series of programmes, the Navy fulfilled its social responsibility towards preserving and promoting national, religious, and cultural heritage.
